Best 5 Google Docs tips in 2024 : In word processing, there are three beasts: Microsoft Word, OpenOffice, and Google Docs. Most users are likely tied to Word, but its offline, collaboration-free nature makes it look a little boring next to Google Docs.
Whether you use Docs as your primary word processor, as a place to keep your files in the cloud, or just as a notepad for your online finds, these tips will help you get the most out of Google Docs.
5 Google Docs secrets
1. Easy uploading. To quickly upload files of almost any format to Google Docs, drag and drop files from your hard drive to the Docs home page. To upload an entire folder (like My Documents), go to Upload > Folder. Subfolders will also be added.
2. Better photo inserting. Easily insert a photo into your doc by dragging and dropping files from your hard drive into the doc. To wrap text around the photo (pictures are put in-line with text by default), click it and select “Fixed.” If you plan to grab a photo from the Web, go to Insert > Image > Google Image Search. This tool is far better than searching, saving a photo to the desktop, and reuploading it to Google.
Best 5 Google Docs tips
3. Use comments. To insert a comment, highlight text, right-click it, and select “Comment.” Your name and comment will appear in the sidebar, where fellow collaborators can reply. To address a specific person in a comment, type “@” followed by the name. If the highlighted text is moved around, comments will follow–smart!
4. Back up your files. Because the cloud isn’t completely trustworthy, keep hard copies on your drive. In the Google Docs home, hover over a document title and select Actions > Download > All Items. Select the file types, and hit “Download.”
5. Find more tips. Matt K., who works in Google Consumer Operations, put together this rap to help you navigate Google Docs Help. A geek rapping about tech? Not too shabby.

Best Free Language Learning Apps of 2024 : Below is a list of my favorite ways to learn languages from my phone, complete with pros and cons for each choice. Using an app to learn a language is super handy because you can follow lessons and check your progress anywhere, even if there are just a few minutes to spare.
Whether you want to order food on your upcoming vacation, talk to a friend in their preferred language, or boost your resume with a new skill, these learning apps are a fantastic way to achieve your goal.
Learning a new language with Duolingo has been a breeze. When I open the app, I simply choose the language I want to learn, and I’m all set to start the course. What’s great is you don’t need an account at first, although I do suggest creating one later to track progress.
This app begins by using text, pictures, and audio to help you learn a different language. The idea is to associate the sound of the translation with the visuals of the text and pictures, and then have you manually translate the audio back into your preferred language to help reinforce the new words.
Every section you complete moves you forward to more difficult tasks, to build on your vocabulary and sentence structure. You have the option of testing out of several sections at once if you’re familiar with the language, and Duolingo will adapt the questions based on how well you do.
Most of these apps teach you a language through exercises and progressive steps, while Google’s simply tells you how to write and speak anything you run through it. Still, I think it’s a great option for beginners.
I like to learn languages with Google Translate for two main reasons: its long list of supported languages, and the several language learning methods.
You can use it to translate text, handwriting, and your voice. This means you can enter text manually, draw the text, or speak it to convert it into the target language. You can even save your favorite translations to refer to them quickly whenever you like.
Google Translate may be different, but it’s certainly a great tool if you’re stuck on a specific word or phrase, or if you prefer to target your learning to particular phrases and sentences only. It can especially prove to be beneficial if you’re speaking with someone that doesn’t know your language
Another reason I think this app is a must-have if you’re traveling is instant translations. Available for some languages, it’s a type of augmented reality that uses your phone camera to translate, in real time, any text you point it at, like signs and menus. You definitely need to try it out!
Languages You Can Learn: Japanese, Dutch, Danish, Greek, Bulgarian, Swahili, Swedish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Welsh, Chinese, French, Hungarian, Korean, Czech, English, Persian, Latin, Bosnian, and dozens more
This app can translate even when you don’t have an internet connection—just make sure you download the language pack before you go offline. See How to Use Google Translate Offline for all the details.
Memrise isn’t as smooth as Duolingo or as easy to use for quick translations as Google Translate, but it is easy to work with, supports offline courses, and lets you learn a massive number of languages. You can start off simple or skip all the way through to more advanced lessons.
I find Memrise to be unique in how it teaches new words and phrases. They incorporate words into sentences alongside words that sound similar in your language, which makes it easier to remember. You might also come across multiple images with familiar objects overlaid with foreign words, helping you make stronger connections.
Another clever method Memrise uses is mixing up translations. Instead of learning words one by one, you learn a few new words together and then keep reviewing them in a different order. This helps ensure you really grasp the words before moving on to the next round of learning.
Languages You Can Learn: Chinese, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Icelandic, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mongolian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Yoruba
Busuu’s app is user-friendly and offers flexibility in how you interact with the courses. You get to pick where you’d like to begin in the course. Depending on the language, this might be beginner, elementary, intermediate, upper intermediate, or advanced courses.
The words and phrases you’ll learn are especially helpful for beginners who might find themselves around people speaking a foreign language and need to learn words in real situations quickly.
The app teaches you vocabulary words and phrases, presenting them both on their own and within sentences. As you progress through the levels, it also evaluates your knowledge through quizzes to ensure you’re learning effectively.
Unfortunately, Busuu doesn’t support as many languages as some of these other apps, and you do need a user account to get in. Also, some quizzes and other features may require a premium account, but there are many, many words and quizzes that are absolutely free.
Languages You Can Learn: English, Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Korean
Rosetta Stone is a professional-grade service for language learning, but they offer this free app meant specifically to help travelers learn basic words and phrases.
There are dozens of pictures tied to common phrases that are spoken aloud in the language you’re wanting to learn, and you have to repeat the words back to practice your pronunciation. One thing I appreciate is that it can skip forward to any lesson or let me follow through from beginning to end.
There’s also a phrasebook with basic words and words related to restaurants, hotels, and getting around—all very useful for someone traveling. If you want, you can purchase additional phrasebooks covering topics like shopping, colors, emergencies, and currency-related terms.
Languages You Can Learn: Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Dutch, English (American or British), Filipino (Tagalog), French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Persian (Farsi), Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish (Latin American or Spain), Swedish, Turkish, Vietnamese
How to Earn Money from Blog: You can make money either directly from your blog or make money because of your blog. In the “direct” option, you show advertisements to your visitors or sell affiliate products while in the other case, you make money indirectly as blogging can help you find a new job or get freelancing work (after all, your blog is a portfolio of your thoughts, ideas and skills.)
To display advertisements on your blog, you can either partner with existing advertising programmes (like Google Adsense, Chitika, etc) or contact prospective advertisers directly (say you have a popular blog about Sports Shoes, then Nike or Reebok could be interested in showcasing their products to your visitors).
We will first discuss the popular advertising programmes and then suggest a few other approaches to generate income from your blog.
BlogAds are the pioneer in blog advertising. BlogAds generally pay well and also provide you the liberty to choose which ads are displayed on your blog. The other big advantage is that BlogAds offer a fixed payment irrespective of the number of site visitors. But the downside is that you can gain entry into the BlogAds network, only when your website receives a decent amount of traffic and some advertiser is willing to sponsor you. That could be a huge requirement for a new blog but established bloggers should consider BlogAds, provided they find sponsors.
The biggest and most famous player in web advertising is Google. Their Google Adsense programme is hugely popular because it offers contextual ads, meaning Google spiders scan the content of the webpage on which Google Ads would be displayed and then show ads based on the context of the content. Contextual Ads offer very good returns, as site visitors are more interested in knowing about products that are related to the content they are reading. For example, someone reading about cars will show more interest in advertisements about car loans than in software like Microsoft Office. Google algorithms make sure that your site visitors see only relevant ads.
Getting Google Adsense ads for you blog is very simple. There are absolutely no pre-requirements like finding sponsors or site traffic levels or geographic location except one – your blog should stay away from topics like gambling, piracy or sexual content. Once you fit the bill, applying is a one step process. Google engineers review your site the next day and send you a small “ad code” that you can integrate in your blog. Ads start getting displayed almost immediately.
Google Ads can be either “Pay per Click” or “Pay per Impression”. Their reporting system is almost real-time – you can check at any time of the day what your earnings have been since the start of the day. Google even has the largest pool of advertisers, so you can virtually write on any topic and Google will find relevant ads for you. Also, Google Adsense is more suitable for Indian Publishers as Google sends a monthly payment cheque in Indian Rupees so you save paying bank commissions for international transactions. Highly recommended.
Chitika is another player though relatively new. Chitika Comparison Shopping Ads are generally more popular on product related blogs that write about gadgets, clothes, software since Chitika displays merchandise from Shopping.com. Chitika Ads, known as Chitika eMiniMalls, are presented in an interactive ad unit – one can compare prices from different merchants, read the main features of a product and even search the shopping database – everything inside one ad.
Chitika is known to offer good returns but there’s one drawback. Though anyone can apply for their programme, Chitika won’t pay you for traffic from India, Pakistan and some other countries. That means if a site visitor in India clicks a Chitika ad, the site owner won’t receive any benefit. Sites that primarily receive traffic from US, UK can consider Chitika as a good alternative.
TextLinkAds and Adbrite are other popular site-targeted non-contextual advertising programmes. They are extremely popular with gambling, adult content and file uploading sites like rapidshare or megaupload. The reason that these programmes are popular lies in the flexibility and small entry-level requirements – an advertiser can choose to run his ad on your site, for just one day or maybe seven days and immediately calculate the conversion ratio. No bidding competitors and the ad is guaranteed to run on the blogger’s website. These programmes are particularly popular among small advertisers or who do not fit the Adwords Policies. Recommended.
So we have looked at advertising, now let’s examine some different approaches to make money from blogs.
Become an Affiliate – Companies like Amazon, ClickBank, Commission Junction offer affiliate programmes – the way they function is that you promote a product like a book or a software on your blog, your readers visit the merchant’s website and when they actually buy it – you get a commission ranging from 5% up to 50% of the sale proceedings. Remember, the ratio of a site visit converting into a product sale, is very low.
Donations – Don’t be surprised, you can actually make good money from Donations – There are a lot of “good people” on planet earth who are willing to share their fortune (maybe just 0.00001%) provided they enjoy reading your blog and probably benefit from the blog content. For example, if you wrote about some fuel saving tip and if it actually worked, people may be interested in sending you a token of appreciation via Paypal.
There’s one more option ‘Sell your Blog as a Brand’ – If you are a popular blogger and have a huge fan following, it’s time to capitalize on it. Start selling T-shirts, coffee mugs, handbags with your logo and your fans will actually buy them. CafePress is a popular choice here – When someone makes a purchase, Cafepress sends you a commission.
Or if you can write eBooks on your favourite subjects, Blogs can be a good selling place.

SBICard recently launched a dedicated fuel credit card in association with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and this article is all about SBI BPCL Fuel Credit Card . The features mentioned on the card is kinda bit confusing because of lots of terms and conditions but here we’re to breakdown the numbers.
Overview
Type
Fuel Credit Card
Reward Rate
Upto 3%
Annual Fee
1,000 INR+GST
Best for
BPCL Spends
USP
Good redemption options
I would never suggest fuel credit cards to anyone and SBICard support is very poor in that matter. So, stay away!
Joining Fees
Joining Fee
500 INR+GST
Welcome Benefit
2000 Points (Rs.500 worth of fuel)
Renewal Fee
500 INR+GST
Renewal Fee Waiver
Nil
Your joining fee is only partly offset by the welcome benefit (except GST). That aside, you don’t get renewal fee waiver with this Card, which is otherwise present in Axis Indian Oil & Citi Indian Oil fuel credit Cards.
The “13X Reward Points on fuel purchases at BPCL” simply means 13 Points and as the value of each point is Rs. 0.25, effective value out of 13X points = 3.25%. Now lets say you fuel for Rs.1000 and see how much you save.
Fuel Charge at BPCL: 1000 INR
-10 INR (1% Surcharge)
+10 (1% Surcharge Waiver)
-1.8 (18% GST on surcharge)
+32.5 (13X Points)
Total Savings = 30.7 INR Equivalent (3% value)
So, in simple words, you can save max. Rs.325 per month (1300 points max per billing cycle) if you spend ~10,000 INR (may differ if you cross this limit) exactly ON FUEL but the effective savings maybe lot more if you’re currently using a credit/debit card that charges you surcharge.
Apart from the above, you can also get 5X points by spending on certain categories, which will save you 1.25% (5X points) which is OKAY if you don’t have cards like SBI Prime which has wonderful reward rate on many categories.
Conditions:
SBI Surcharge on Fuel: 1% or Rs.10 whichever is higher (txn value Rs.500-Rs.4000)
Max Surcharge Waiver: Rs.100/m (Spend: Rs.10,000/m)
Max txn value per swipe: Rs.4000
Important Note: If you note the first point, the above savings wont work if you fuel BIKES, which is usually in Rs.500 range. Hence, holds good for car fuel spends between Rs.1000 to Rs.4000.
The limits above are in place to avoid charges by commercial vehicle users. Ideally, this is an acceptable limit for the card as its primarily positioned for beginners with BPCL spends.
Bottom line
Rating: 3.5/5
Its good to see banks come up with dedicated Fuel cards but i wish it could be made even more simple. For example, I always prefer to use Amex cards at HPCL pumps so i get NO surcharge at all – peace of mind.
That aside, overall its a decent card for those who’s getting started with credit cards or for those who like a good value back on fuel charges. If you’re looking for even better fuel card, do check out the list of Best Fuel Credit Cards in India.
What’s your take on the new SBI BPCL partnership? Feel free to share your thoughts in comments below.
Best 4 Google Tips in 2024 : Google goes beyond everything that I have written in the previous post. It lets you search specific things in simple ways. Lets learn how to make specific request to Google…
SBI SimplySAVE Credit Card: Believe it or not, for most people in India the word SBI is synonymous with “trust” in banking. The reasons are obvious, the amount of time it is around an the second thing is that it’s a govt. bank. Both these factors became instrumental in roping in huge number of customers when SBI decided to introduce it’s credit card services in India.
While we may be vocal in the lapses in customer care services from SBICard just as there are with other credit card companies like HDFC and Yesbank, however, no one can deny the fact that SBI with the sheer number of customers may very well be the largest credit card issuer in the country soon. I used to own a SimplyCLICK credit card but for totally personal reasons and not for much benefit, I have swapped it for SimplySAVE card.
If you consider embossed cards, no one can deny that SBI has some of the most beautiful looking cards in the industry. This card is not an exception too. The card is issued on two platforms- VISA and Mastercard. Earlier, the VISA one came with ‘VISA Platinum” written and Mastercard , came in with “Mastercard Titanium” written. I got this card just a few days ago. Since, I held a Mastercard variant of SimplyCLICK card, so when I swapped my card, I was given a Mastercard variant of SimplySAVE card.
It comes in wonderful blue colour with “₹” inside the design. It looks great. The card also flaunts the new Mastercard logo and is devoid of the “Titanium” branding.
The card comes with a welcome benefit of 2000 RPs if you spend more than ₹2000 within 60 days of card set issuance. This guarantees the amount of ₹500 as CB for the joining fees that you give (₹500 + GST).
You get 10X RPs for spends on Dining, Movies, Grocery and Departmental Stores. This is the biggest benefit of the card. If you are among the people who have the habit of purchasing stuff from local marts like Big Bazar or so, you’ll love this card for getting you flat 2.5% CB. And this is huge as no card with such low joining and annual fees allows such CB.
The Base Reward Earning rate is 1 RP for ₹100 spent (0.25% CB). This is not beneficial for those who spend more on other categories and online shopping. For the online expenditure, SBI SimplyCLICK Cards are more apt.
1% fuel surcharge waiver across ALL petrol pumps. The upper cap of surcharge waiver is ₹100/month for txn spends between ₹500 to ₹3000.
Membership fee of ₹500 + GST is waived off if your annual spends are more than ₹90,000. This is quite easily achievable.
As with other SBI Cards, you can apply for a maximum of 2 add on cards which come for free.
One of the biggest benefits of the card is that you can redeem the points accrued as statement credit. The minimum points required to redeem is 2000 RPs. This is a good way to redeem the points. However, what we don’t know is whether there is any redemption fee or not.
One of the biggest advantages of holding an SBI Credit Card is that SBI runs 10-15% off campaigns on websites like Flipkart, Amazon, Snapdeal etc all through the year during many sales. This kind of discounts itself warrants the need of keeping an SBI Credit Card in the wallet. I am sure many of us have used these discounts in the past.
Card Expert Rating: 3.5/5[yasr_overall_rating]
UPDATE: As many users are mentioning there is a redemption fee of ₹99 + GST. Please ask them before redemption.
What do you think of this card? Do you consider it better for low spenders? Have you owned this card in past or plan to own it for your parents? Do let us know in the comments section below.
